AUDI has finally unveiled a limited edition, next-generation variant of its classic RS6.

This is the RS6 GT, and it comes complete with everything a racer could dream of – from carbon fibre body panels, to performance enhancing aero dynamicity.

The front of the car has been completely reimagined. Audi’s latest RS6 comes complete with brand spanking new panels and highly refined detailing, like its ‘singleframe’ grille.

The front wings also feature outlets behind the 22inch wheels for aero-optimisation, as they reduce air pressure in the wheel arches and have been found to significantly improve brake cooling.

The back of the car features a diffuser – adding to the car’s image of broadness – alongside motorsport-inspired adaptations to the bottom of its tailgate.

Each of the new RS6 GTs will be powered by the same 4.0 litre twin turbo engine as the regular estate-car – which pumps a powerful 621bhp to both shafts.

But, the high-tech aerodynamic tweaks that have been made to the car mean that the GT model can reach 125mph in under 12 seconds, 1.5 seconds faster than the original.

The RS6 GT also has a top speed of 190mph.

Inside, the car has hardly skimped on luxuries.

The seats have been upholstered in Dinamica, complete with red and bronze stitching along the seats, steering wheel and the floor mats.

The interior also has a plaque bearing the model number the customer received.

Rolf Michl, the managing director of Audi Sport, told Autocar that when the concept was announced a few years ago, it was never guaranteed to become a production car.

He said: “Every RS has to fulfil a certain role, so internally it was a really tough discussion for us.

“The commitment was that we have to stick as close as possible to the GTO concept but always reflect the characteristics of an RS.

“Then the team had to work as quickly as possible because even doing things like a carbonfibre bonnet or fenders, it is huge.”

Michl revealed that this is the first Audi to have used carbonfibre on the bonnet, the wings and even on its wheels.

He said: “We wanted to showcase [new materials] because carbonfibre is one of the basics in racing and the reduction of unsprung masses is always an aim.

“So with that, we just wanted to show how we could even improve a car with several attachments and make technology visible.

“It’s really to have something special and we know we have existing RS customers searching for another pinnacle.”

This ultra-limited edition of Audi’s V8 super-estate will only see 660 copies sold worldwide – with 60 of those in the UK.

The new super-car is expected to cost prospective buyers an estimated £180,000, with deliveries beginning towards spring-time.

TOP FIVE AUDI RS6 GT FEATURES

Carbon fibre The RS6 GT is the first Audi to feature carbonfibre on the bonnet, the wings and its wheels.

Speed The GT model can reach 125mph in under 12 seconds, 1.5 seconds faster than the original. It also has a top speed of 190mph.

Interior design The RS6 GT’s seats have been upholstered in the uber classy Dinamica. It also features red and bronze stitching all along the interior.

Motorsport design The double wing, rear diffuser, ‘singleframe’ grille and tailgate have all been inspired by motorsport counterparts.

Aerodynamic tweaks These aid dramatically in the car’s ability to reach top speeds, but also reduce air pressure and improve brake cooling.
